Two Pastors, 14 believers attacked at Chitradurga

Chitradurga: Two Pastors and 14 believers were taken into custody from Chitradurga in Karnataka on 8 August 2010 for their alleged conversion activities in the area.

The incident happened after the Sunday service. This was preceded by an attack on the gathering by activists belonging to Bajarang Dal. Thereafter the miscreants field a complaint against the Pastors alleging large-scale conversion activities in the area.
Alarmed over the development, a team of leaders from All India Christian Council (aicc) rushed to the place the following day. According to the team members, the attackers targeted a hostel run by the Gypsy Mission and not the church.

The miscreants entered the hostel and started to beat up the students and the two Pastors Hema Naik and Shibu who are in charge of hostel. In retaliation, the hostellers attacked the Bajrang Dal activists. The police had to resort to lathi-charge to disperse the warring groups.

The police later released the Pastors and the hostellers following the intervention of a local leader. According the team members, two Bajrang Dal activists are still in police custody.
