Serena Williams has defeated the 25-year-old Russian Vera Zvonareva 6-3, 6-2 to win a fourth Wimbledon women’s tennis championship. She has now surpassed former American great Billie Jean King’s 12 career grand slam singles titles.
The top-seeded Williams beat the 21st-seeded Zvonareva 6-3, 6-2 to win her 13th Grand Slam title, without ever facing a break point. Serena took only 67 minutes to defend her 2009 crown against 21st seed Zvonareva.
Serena beat Michelle Larcher De Brito in the opening round displaying the best serve in women’s tennis when she hammered 15 aces. She defeated Anna Chakvetadze in the second round and Dominika Cibulkova in the third round firing 20 aces. In a fourth round clash with rival Maria Sharapova she won 7-6(9), 6-4 saving 3 set points while serving 19 aces. And she defeated Li Na in the quarterfinals.
Williams was the defending champion in doubles with her sister Venus, winning the last two years. But they lost in the quarterfinals to Elena Vesnina and Zvonareva.
