Operation Compassion Responds to the Victims of Hurricane Isaac
Immediately following the landfall of Hurricane Isaac, Operation Compassion began its relief response to the victims. To date, 7 truckloads of relief goods totaling more than 250,000 pounds have been sent to the greater New Orleans, Louisiana area. In addition, financial assistance was sent to help feed a group of 500 families evacuating to Houston and Dallas prior to Hurricane Isaac’s landfall.
As our disaster relief partners started to respond, Operation Compassion helped subsidize their expenses. Partners that serve hot meals, clean-up debris, cover roofs and provide many others services were setting up their operations in order to better serve the survivors.
To further aid one of the local pastors’, a 36 ft. travel trailer was sent to house his family as long as they need it. Their home was flooded with more than 12 feet of water losing everything, including clothes, furniture and personal items. The only way to get to his house for several days was by boat.
While Hurricane Isaac was not a very big storm, its lingering affect and extremely slow movement brought unexpected destruction and hardship to communities still rebuilding from Hurricanes Katrina and Gustov.
