Next Generation of Church of God Missionaries Ready for the Challenge
Everaldo and Lydia Nascimento are a young couple with two children who have been commissioned by God to take the message of Jesus Christ to a challenging 94 percent Muslim nation … Senegal, Africa.
After months and months of fund-raising and preparation, the Nascimentos are on their way to the mission field. They are feeling a great sense of excitement, anticipation, and fulfillment to be heading toward their ministry goal. All is in place for a successful beginning.
Lydia is no stranger to the mission field. Her parents, Max and Debbie Thompson, have served on the missions field since 2001. Everaldo accepted Christ at age 17, and was called into the ministry, studying at the Church of God Bible School in Recife, Brazil. He also served as a house parent at City of Hope Home for Children in Brazil.
The Nascimentos will be located in Dakar, the capital city, with a metropolitan population of 2.45 million. They will establish a ministry center in Dakar as a base for training leaders and church planters to reach out along the African Firewall eastward through Mauritania and Mali toward the next anchor point in Niger. It is critical ministry. In addition, Everaldo is a licensed soccer coach and plans to use this experience to reach youth and children. Lydia is a certified teacher of English as a second language.
The African Firewall is an initiative of Men and Women of Action in cooperation with the leadership of the Church of God in Africa, under the auspices of Church of God World Missions. The nation of Senegal is a part of that project. Senegal means “our boat,” which appeals to the people in the sense “we’re all in the same canoe.”
The Nascimentos have a rough course to navigate in the days ahead. This is their message to you … “Please pray and support us as we travel to Senegal to bring Christ to a predominately Muslim country. Our donors are vital to our success in spreading the gospel, and we are forever grateful for your support. We are excited to witness Senegal transform from a Muslim country into a Christ-following nation!”
