Ghana Gets Africa a Win in the World Cup

Serbia conceded a 85th-minute goal from the penalty spot in the Group D match at Loftus Versveld on Sunday. The waves of celebration were dissipated all over the continent as Ghana recorded Africa’s first win at the 2010 World Cup; and the joy was total, Accra fans celebrated.

The victory was not only Ghana’s but Africa’s victory, must fans all over the continent expressed solidarity and expressed the hope that Africa should not only host the 2010 FIFA World Cup competition but get the trophy as well for the first time.

The first victory for an African team in the 19th edition of the 2010 FIFA World Cup came at last, and we get it from the Black Stars of Ghana. They won their opening game against a well-drilled, highly-regarded Serbia side and we thank to an Asamoah Gyan penalty. He transformed an 85th minute penalty to the lone goal in the match against Serbia in the Group D opener.

Of course, Ghana’s victory has rekindled hope in African teams after two African teams had already lost their opening games.

Nigeria had earlier in a Group C match, lost to Argentina 0-1 and Algeria was also overpowered by Slovenia 0-1.
