Christian murdered in Kandhamal, Orissa
Mr. Paul P. was killed in the district that was the epic-center of anti-Christian riots in 2008. The Christian man was murdered under mysterious circumstances on 11 January 2011 in Barbhunja village, near Raikia in Kandhamal District, Orissa.
According to local contacts, the man was not a pastor or evangelist but his life had changed since he decided to follow Jesus. He had stopped drinking and keeping bad company and often told people about the change in his life.
In the evening, some local Hindutva men called him and took him to the nearby jungle. When he did not return, his wife was worried and started a search.
Villagers said the attackers beat him up and threw him in the local pond. They believe he was dragged out of water while alive, killed, and thrown again into the pond.
A report was filed with police and postmortem was done. The report hasn’t been released and local leaders believe the report might be tampered with and the truth hidden. No one has been arrested.
Aicc is considering legal action to assist the community. This is second attack on Christians in Kandhamal District by Hindutva radicals since the beginning of 2011.
