For the past several months, the Church of God Chaplains Commission and the World Missions Department have been in partnership to respond to the horrific earthquake which brought devastation to Haiti.
In early July, a small team of “boots on the ground” chaplains responded to needs in Port-au-Prince. Chaplain Jake Popejoy, along with Chaplains David Redden, Jimmy Dupree, Vernon Landreth, and Jack Cochran, flew into the capital city and immediately began the process of debriefing pastors, students, and congregation members.
Bishop Frede Bordeau, the national overseer, was prepared to establish a National Haitian Chaplains Corp with an emphasis on Disaster Response. During our time in Haiti, we trained 29 pastors as Disaster Response chaplains. The overseer appointed Pastor Nesmy Profete as the national chaplain’s director, and a board of five pastors to serve as the national chaplain’s board. We are very grateful to Bishop for his vision and concern for the chaplaincy outreach in Haiti.
