The Donglowais are a distinct group of Nubians who live along the Nile River in southern Egypt and northern Sudan. Their lifestyle is essentially the same as that of all other Nubian peoples; only their language is different. The social, economic, and cultural aspects of Nubian lives are very similar to one another. Their economy is based on agricultural production of wheat, millet, barley, and several other crops. Men do most of the farm work, and women work in the home. However, some of the men own grocery stores or drive cabs, and many women have found work as schoolteachers, seamstresses, and public service workers. In more recent times, this has put a strain on their traditional lifestyle.
For centuries, the Nubians have held lengthy religious and agricultural ceremonies. More recently, these ceremonies have been shortened and simplified. During these ceremonies the Nubians sing, dance and beat drums. As with the other Nubians, there is no established fellowship among the Donglowai Nubians.
